 R-Side® Solution - Rust, Residue &  Particulate

The existence of particulates circulating in the refrigerant-side of an operating chiller or refrigeration system can lead to a multitude of problems. The impact may ultimately include reduced performance, chiller degradation and/or complete shutdown and failure. Chief among the identified offenders include liberated rust particles and residue forming deposits on tubes and systems components and the residuals following a Hermetic Motor Burnout.

Particles of rust frequently become dislodged from chiller shells and other system components (see Rust & Residue) and are carried throughout the system by the circulating refrigerant and lubrication system. The consequences may be dire when the particles accumulate on the tube surfaces, particularly the enhanced fin tubes, and other system components. This situation has been regularly observed on many chillers serviced by Hudson. The effects of these deposits can be quite dramatic ranging from significant reduction in heat transfer and the plugging of system components including orifices, distribution plate and oil filters, to ultimate degradation of chiller performance leading to shutdown.

This condition generally occurs as the result of the entry of moisture in the refrigerant-side of a system (see Wet Refrigerant) causing rust accumulation on chiller shells and piping and the ultimate release of particulates into the refrigerant. In the case of rust particulate, Hudson has developed a unique RefrigerantSide® Solution to eliminate the deposits and restore the system to optimal performance.

This solution includes:
Identification of the appropriate chemical cleaning agents by Hudson's chemists to dissolve rust from tube surface and vessel
Use of patented technology and processes to eliminate accumulated deposit
System dehydration, if aqueous solutions used
Online system decontamination to remove rust and other contaminants suspended throughout the system.

The net effect of this process is the elimination of the rust accumulation and the restoration of the system to optimal performance. Hudson's RefrigerantSide® Solution:
Restores tubing surface to original state
Restore heat transfer efficiency
Regains lost system capacity
Eliminates time and expense of re-tubing
