Hudson Technologies
Introduces ChillSMART™ Product Offering
Offers New Analytical
Tool to Optimize Chiller System Operations
PEARL RIVER, N.Y.
– April 21, 2005 – Hudson Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: HDSN),
a leading refrigerant services company, today announced the launch
of ChillSMART™, a powerful new analytical tool for improving the
operations of industrial and commercial chiller systems. Combining
Hudson’s
engineering and chemistry know-how, ChillSMART™ analyzes the
operation of refrigeration systems, identifies problems that cause
catastrophic failures and conditions that impair energy efficiency,
and develops solutions to help restore systems to higher levels of
energy efficiency and reliability.
ChillSMART™
provides commercial and industrial companies with a complete
chemistry and engineering-based system analysis that compares and
correlates the relationship between fluid samples and system
performance.
ChillSMART™
correlates the results of five simultaneous tests – refrigerant,
water, oil, vibration and wear analysis – to provide customers with
the most accurate assessment of how a chiller is performing.
It also
includes Hudson’s Performance Evaluation,
a detailed
engineering analysis that provides a snapshot of the actual
performance of the chiller system, including its individual
components,
an
interpretive report of Hudson’s findings, and recommendations for
remedying the system shortcomings. Click

Chief Executive Officer
Kevin Zugibe,
P.E., commented, “ChillSMART™ is the latest in a series of
diagnostic tools Hudson Technologies has pioneered to optimize the
operation of chiller systems. Combining the elements of our
Performance Evaluation and Chiller Chemistry™ offerings in a single
package, ChillSMART™ provides a comprehensive picture of the
inefficiencies of a refrigeration system’s operations, measuring the
effects of dangerous contaminants such as oil, moisture, and acid
within the fluids of these systems, and providing recommendations to
remedy problems within the system.
“By identifying problems before they become critical – and
pinpointing remedies – ChillSMART™ enables our customers to lower
equipment maintenance costs, avoid unplanned shutdowns and identify
remedies to improve the operating efficiency of the system. Equally
important, through
Hudson’s
proprietary web-based technology, companies can baseline, benchmark
and trend chiller performance over time to stay ahead of potential
problems.”
Mr. Zugibe
continued, “Hudson’s
initial applications of
ChillSMART™
identified a total of more than $1.0 million in potential energy
savings for several leading companies in the chemical and
manufacturing industries. Given the U.S. Department of Energy’s
estimates that commercial and industrial companies spend a total of
more than $19 billion annually on cooling costs, we believe the
market opportunity for our new offering is significant. In most
facilities, chiller systems are the single largest energy-using
component, typically consuming 50% of the electrical usage. In
total, this consumption represents approximately 20% of the total
electrical power generated in North America.”
ChillSMART™ demonstrates Hudson’s continued commitment to
expanding the breadth of its RefrigerantSide® Services offering,
which leverages the Company’s engineering expertise and technology
investments while mitigating the effects of seasonal refrigerant
sales.
About Hudson Technologies:
Hudson Technologies, Inc. is a leading provider of innovative
solutions to recurring problems within the refrigeration industry.
Hudson’s proprietary RefrigerantSide® Services, which are provided
through a nationwide network of service depots, increase operating
efficiency and energy savings, and remove moisture, oils and other
contaminants frequently found in the refrigeration circuits of large
comfort cooling and process refrigeration systems. Performed at a
customer’s site as an integral part of an effective scheduled
maintenance program or in response to emergencies, RefrigerantSide®
Services offer significant savings to customers due to their ability
to be completed rapidly, and can be utilized while the customer’s
system continues to operate. In addition, the company sells
refrigerants and provides traditional recovery and reclamation
services to the commercial and industrial air conditioning and
refrigeration markets.
